I stumbled across this website that has on it documentaries that tell particular and personal stories of different experiences of the homeless. The title of the series is Homelessness: Myths and Memories Videos and this first link is the story of Daren. I really like the use of photography. It comes across almost as a slide projector show, which gives the impression of a distant past, an experience far out of reach of the narrator.
For my own project, the photography most likely will not be of such a personal nature, but I’d like to present it in the same format. Images that stay on screen for a few beats, and then are forced out abruptly by the next. I will be experimenting with using video as well, though need to be careful not to create something that looks more like a mess of media, than something slick and sophisticated. This weekend I plan to go out and start experimenting with the photography and imagery.
